TV – Star Wars “The Wrong Jedi” Review
Something is brewing in the Jedi Temple it is apparent that everyone can feel it. Ahsoka faces being branded a traitor for the actions the senate and many of the Jedi council members believe she committed.
Ahsoka seems emotionally drained. She has little hope that she will be proven innocent.
Tarkin pressures the Jedi Council to expel her from the Jedi Order so that she can be tried in a military tribunal. While Obi-Wan believes we need to stand with her. The council decides to summon her to the Chamber of Judgement to decide if they will take the action demanded by Tarkin. Unfortunately for Tano the Jedi Council finds her guilty of sedition and bars her from the Jedi Order.
Anakin: “You can’t do this!”
Since Ahsoka still believes that Ventress is behind the attacks and betrayal of her. Anakin realizes this is their only lead and seeks out Ventress to find the truth. Anakin tails Ventress and engages her in combat.
Remind you of anything?
She of course has little chance against him without her lightsabers. She admits to Anakin that she wanted to turn in Ahsoka and collect the bounty on her head. However she realized that Ahsoka and her were not so different so instead she decided to help. Ventress accuses Anakin of abandoning Ahsoka and then tells him that she was not the only one Ahsoka had told of their whereabouts.
Indeed there was another from the Jedi Order who knew. She tells him she does not know who knocked her out and stole her lightsabers but that not many can easily sneak up on her. It had to be another Jedi. Whomever has her lightsabers is the one who betrayed Ahsoka. Before Anakin leaves Vantress he tells her that if she is lying she is dead.
Meanwhile Ahsoka is facing the senate with the possibility of death as punishment.
Commander Tarkin: “When you are found guilty I ask the court that the full extent of the law be brought down upon you. Including penalty of death!”
Padme has been assigned to represent her and she tries to do her best to defend Ahsoka with little to go on. It does not look very good for her. Tarkin is completely convinced she is the culprit and will stop at nothing to convict her. Anakin heads to the Jedi Temple to speak to the one Ventress told him had spoken to Ahsoka. When Anakin arrives at this Jedi’s chambers he acts very polite but informs the Jedi that he believes both Ahsoka and Ventress are telling the truth. Only one way to find out if he is correct. He engages his lightsaber and the Jedi he is questioning engages both of Ventress’s crimson sabers. Anakin tells the Jedi they should have gotten rid of them. To which the Jedi replies “I think they suit me.” Anakin and the Jedi engage in a fight through the Temple. Several Temple Guards block the exits and this skilled Jedi realizes there is no where to run. A leap out the window is the only other option and Anakin follows suit.
Anakin and the Jedi continue their intense fight atop the Jedi Temple while younglings train below them. The Jedi causes Anakin to fall off the roof to the amazement of these younglings.
Gasp! Anakin fell off the roof!
The Jedi quickly jumps down intent on killing Anakin. However he avoids the attack and grabs the Jedi’s wrist. Squeezing tight he disarms the Jedi of one of Ventress’s lightsabers. At this point the Jedi has little defense. Anakin overpowers the Jedi throwing them hard against a tree and its all over.
Anakin brings the Jedi to the Senate hearing. Just as Chancellor Palpatine is about to read the verdict of the courts against Ahsoka. The captured Jedi confesses to the crimes and accuses the Jedi Temple of being an army fighting for the Dark Side. If only this Jedi knew how right they are.
At this point I debated whether or not to write the final reveal so instead I will leave it up to you to watch the episode and see it to the end. Will Ahsoka Tano be cleared of all charges or will her and this Jedi be accused of conspiring together? If Ahsoka is found guilty of such a conspiracy will she be executed and by whom? Finally if instead Tarkin’s influence is not enough and she is ex-sponged of all charges. Will she rejoin the Jedi Order or has too much damage been done?
We have seen the Jedi Order make many decisions we would not agree with while obeying the orders of the Republic and in this episode we see once again how when put under pressure the Jedi Order bends to the will of Chancellor Palpatine. It is very apparent at this point to see how they will fall. As we have come to the close of another season I wonder how many episodes are left. We are clearly nearing the time of Order 66 and the reveal of the true Sith Master among the Republic.
While I did feel this episode was quite rushed it was nevertheless enjoyable all the same. Again we see Anakin within the lower regions of Coruscant.
A very noire like atmosphere.
Perhaps one of my favorite things about this arc is the difference in scenery. Instead of the lush greens of Felucia or the barren brown of Geonosis. We get to see an area I have always wanted to explore. We have seen some of the streets of Coruscant In the Clone Wars movie when Anakin is chasing down the bounty hunter responsible for the attempt on Padme’s life but we never got to see this lower region of corruption and darkness. With the announcement of Star Wars 1313 in our midst. It seems only fitting that we got to see a glimpse of this area.
As for this series itself. The visuals and animation have come a long way since the beginning and it truly shows. There have certainly been a few arcs that were less than impressive and at this point in time seem pointless. I’m looking at you Gascon, but regardless we have come a long way and I for one am glad to have embarked on this journey.
+ Incredible visuals and atmosphere
+ Emotionally charged and suspenseful
+ More of lower Coruscant
- This episode feels a bit rushed
- Left with more questions than answers
